Lower Klamath River
TBD
TBD
Beginning in southern Oregon's Cascade Range the Klamath River meanders its way through the beautiful Siskiyou Mountains of Northern California. The Lower Klamath River offers an excellent combination of mild whitewater, wildlife, history, fabulous mountain scenery and relaxing calm stretches which makes it a perfect summer vacation for groups and families. The water is warm and the river is friendly, ideal for fishing, swimming and inflatable kayaking. There are beautiful side hikes like Ukanom Creek, and the wildlife is abundant. This river flows all season and keeps great summer levels. Flowing freely for nearly 200 miles the Klamath River is California's second largest river and has earned National Wild & Scenic River status. It flows through the beautiful Siskiyou Mountains and is for those who want a leisurely, scenic float.
One Day Lower Klamath River Rafting Trip
There will be an orientation at the put-in and a Wilderness Adventure guide will hand out waterproof bags to repack your gear. The guides will give a river safety talk and then we board the rafts. There will be some inflatable kayaks for the daring boater, and the group will challenge rapids such as Rattlesnake, Devil's Toenail, and many others. The Klamath is known for its warm water swimming, excellent steelhead and salmon fishing, and the abundance of wild animals such as great blue heron, osprey, bald eagles, ring tail cat, beaver, otter, bear, and bobcat that can be seen on its shores. We will pull over for a delicious deli style buffet lunch after which we will continue down stream to our campsite. In camp the guides will set up kitchen and begin preparing a gourmet dinner. While in camp there will be time to set up your sleeping site, fish, swim, play, or just relax. The evening meal will be followed by dessert and campfire entertainment, then we'll settle in for a night under the stars.
Two Day Lower Klamath River Rafting Trip
The wonderful smell of coffee and breakfast will greet your senses. We will have time to repack our gear and get ready for another exciting day on the river. This day includes a scout of the Class III+ rapid Dragon's Tooth, another hearty lunch, and more enjoyable rapids, sandy beaches, and side hikes. We will continue down to another relaxing evening in a gorgeous camp.
Three Day Lower Klamath River Rafting Trip
Coffee and breakfast will open your eyes again and we will be off to one of the highlights of this trip. We will explore the rain forest setting of Ukonom Creek and arrive just as the sun lights the massive rock walls. There will be time to sit quietly and bask in the warmth or take a swim beneath the 25 foot high twin falls. After returning from the hike we will have lunch and continue down the last stretch of the river. We will take-out and be back in Happy Camp around 4:30 p.m.
The closest airport is Medford, Oregon (2 hours by car to Happy Camp). Redding, California is the next closest airport (4 hours drive to Happy Camp). From I-5 take Hwy. 96 (WEST) and follow signs to the Klamath River Highway. For one day trips, proceed 6 miles until road curves sharply. Look for "Tree of Heaven" campground and river access signs. For multiple day trips, follow Klamath River Highway to Happy Camp (approximately 64 miles; 1-1/2 hours). After crossing the Indian Creek Bridge, turn left at river access -- across from the Klamath River Inn.
