North Fork American River
14 years +
April-June
The jewel of the Northern Sierras the North Fork of the American River is part of the National Wild & Scenic River System and flows free, unhampered by dams. The snow melt waters cut their way through verdant deep gorges varying in depth from 4,000ft in the Royal Gorge to 3,000ft at Lovers Leap. This 88 miles of river has hundreds of Class IV & V rapids and is the longest tributary of the American River. It begins at an elevation of 7,089 feet around Lake Tahoe in Placer County at the snowcapped crest of the Sierras. This river originates near Mountain Meadow Lake, and immediately due west of Squaw Valley Ski Resort. The upper runs are mostly navigable by professional kayakers. We run the Chamberlain Falls section which is raft able but be prepared to paddle and be an active participant.
One Day North Fork American River Rafting Trip - Chamberlain Falls
The Chamberlain Falls run is a magnificent journey down virtually continuous Class IV and IV+ rapids through a 2,000ft deep canyon. Navigate rapids such as Slaughter's Sluice, Chamberlain Falls, Bogus Thunder, Staircase and more. This is a favorite of those who have previously run Class III rivers -- such as the South Fork of the American. No experience is necessary, but guests should be in good physical condition and be able to swim. Wet suits are necessary thoughout the spring season. Come with us and experience whitewater rafting in its most natural state through the wilderness on this un damned California class IV jewel.
Two Day North Fork American River Rafting Trip - Chamberlain Falls
We offer the same trip at a slightly slower pace with more time for side hikes, fishing, and relaxing. We camp at a remarkable beach by Cod Fish Creek deep in the wilderness. We also float the extra distance to Lake Clementine where you may be able to practice paddle guiding or rowing a boat yourself. We will then take-out and shuttle you back to your vehicles.
